Eco Day 2010

We had an Eco Day to launch the School Environmental Management Plan funded by a Yates Junior Landcare Grant. The students participated in a range of recycling activities.

Sasha from Tweed Shire Council explained the recycling process and presented the school with a stirrer to improve our composting. Dan, also from the Council gave the students a demonstration of the Cent Metre. The students measured the energy being used in the school by the various appliances. Now we can work out how to reduce our consumption.

Lunch was prepared by the students - Art to Eat! This is one time the students can actually play with their food! They created a 'face' then ate their face!! Followed by fruit kebabs.

Chillingham becomes a Plastic Bag-free village

Chillingham is the first village in Northern NSW to say "No" to using plastic bags. On Tuesday 1st June Chillingham Public School students, joined the community at our local shops to receive their own reusable bag. This is a join initiative for environmental sustainability with Tweed Shire Council to reduce the use of plastic bags in the community. Counsellor Katie Milne and Dan Walton from the Tweed Shire Council assisted by handing out the new bags.
